Calculating Your Building Performance Targets
Draft Greenhouse Gas Intensity (GHGI) Calculator Tool Instructional Video
This video guides you through calculating a building’s Greenhouse Gas Emissions Intensity (GHGI) and GHGI Target (GHGIT) in preparation for the Seattle Building Emissions Performance Standard (BEPS). The tool used in the video is a draft calculator based on currently available targets and emissions factors from the BEPS legislation. More-comprehensive and official tools for reporting will be developed and provided by Seattle’s Office of Sustainability & Environment (OSE) following final rulemaking. Download the draft GHGI calculator tool to get started.
To calculate your building’s GHGI and GHGIT, you’ll need the following information about your building:
Annual Weather Normalized Site Energy Use measured in kBTU for each fuel type your building uses (electricity, gas, and/or steam)
Gross Floor Area (GFA) excluding parking
Activity Type(s) as described by ENERGY STAR™ Portfolio Manager
This video was recorded in December 2024. For the latest information on Seattle BEPS performance targets, visit the Seattle BEPS FAQs.
Energy Use Intensity Target (EUIt) Calculator Tool Instructional Video
This video guides you through the process of calculating a building’s Energy Use Intensity Target (EUIt) in accordance with the Washington State Clean Buildings Performance Standard (WA CBPS). The calculator tool in this video is a free resource developed by the Washington State Department of Commerce. Download the calculator tool on the WA CBPS website.
To calculate your building’s EUIt, you’ll need the following information about your building:
County where the building is located
Gross Floor Area (GFA) excluding parking
Activity Type(s) as described in Table 7-2a in the calculator tool
This video was recorded in December 2024. For the latest information on WA CBPS performance targets, visit the WA CBPS website.
Multifamily Resources
Multifamily Webinar: February 11, 2025
In February 2024, the City of Seattle Office of Sustainability & Environment (OSE) held a webinar specifically for multifamily buildings that need to comply with the city and state emissions and energy building standards*. Multifamily buildings that are larger than 20,000 square feet will need to comply with the Seattle Building Emissions Performance Standard (Seattle BEPS) and Washington Clean Buildings Performance Standard (WA CBPS).
